American Boxing

It uses fists and feet only above the waist.

 

The American boxing or full contact "is a mixture of boxing and karate. It is a sport of percussion with fists and feet, requiring practitioners the sum of qualities such as courage, commitment, flexibility, skill, coordination, intelligence, speed - both of performance than anticipated - and above all respect each other in every sense of the term.

The full contact prohibits direct blow below the belt blows and knee and elbow.

The American boxing matches are held in a ring of several rounds of 2 minutes, spaced one minute of rest, during which the boxer is advised and treated, if necessary, by two assistants.

There are 18 different categories ranging from less than 50.5 kilograms (fly) over 95 kg (cat. super heavy).

The scoring method is given by three judges and recognized by a marker. Each judge gives points for each round. It considers the following:

10 to 9.5 for an advantage,

10 to 9 whether the combatant is dominated, or was counted (knock down).

Rarely 10 to 8, which would amount to an overwhelming dominance.

The battles can be won in points (91% are) or KO (only 9%).

The battles are conducted by an arbitrator who will sanction misconduct by negative points, counted at fault by the marker.

Each fighter is under the supervision of a court specialized accounts for kicks (a minimum of 8 staff is required per round).

Only the punches, kicks above the waist, face, chest and sides of the bust are allowed.

The shots in the legs, and behind the head and the back are prohibited.

Once a body part of the opponent, other than the feet touches the ground, we must stop the fight.

There is another form of competition called "semi contact" where the shots are not chained. Points are awarded directly each time a kick or punch is fly. Thai Boxing

Allowed: strikes with fists, shins, knees and elbows; the melee blows in the legs and projections.

The boxers wear gloves (min.113, 3 gr, max. 172 gr), and their feet are covered with bandages from ankle to shin.

Traditionally, before every fight in Thailand, the fighters perform rituals inspired by the history of their country.

Expanding over the past fifteen years in Europe, the European Championships are held which saw the coronation of French, English and Dutchmen.

Jo Prestia (5-6-60) FRA. Former champion France, Europe and the world. Also world champion kick-boxing. Pioneers of France in Thai boxing.

Morad Sari (20-6-73) FRA. Several times world champion, Europe and France of Muay Thai. It was the first European to win a belt at Lumpini Stadium (May 1999).

K-1

Kicking, knee and punches are allowed.

The elbows and melee are not allowed.
