 History

It is a Belgian, Joseph Merlin, who invented the first roller skate in adapting skating ice skating ground. In 1760 he took the idea of setting metal rollers on a wooden plaque. Thanks to the first ball bearings in 1884 that roller skating is a sport of speed and endurance. From the early 20th century, roller skating in France knows very popular. It is practiced in many rooms in Paris and the Federation of Roller Skaters of France was created in 1910. The success was immediate. Are emerging, as in England, paths for skaters and an enthusiastic audience made developers happy! But they realize that skating alone, as attractive as it is, do not give full satisfaction to customers. That is why we organize competitions for figure skating and running, with the opening track of the Hippodrome, Boulevard de Clichy and that of the "Vel d'Hiv" attracts many sportsmen.

The Federation Internationale de Roller-Skating Founded in 1924, has 107 member countries.

It consists of five disciplines:

- The artistic

- Descent (downhill)

- Hockey

- Inline hockey

- Speed on track or road

Some figures in France

- 33 159 graduates in 2000

- 3.5 million practitioners on a regular or occasional

- 4 million pairs of skates sold in 2000 against 2 million in 1998.

The three major families of roller:

- The hulls: the rigid Skating

- The removable: the skate shoe is through the plate (the system that surrounds the wheels) that can be removed.

- The fitness: skating, flexible and fast. They represent over 80% market share.

Rink Hockey

Races

The track events of 200 meters are:

sprint 300 m and 500 m;

bottom: 3000 m, 5000 m and 10,000 m;

relays;

the points race and pursuit.

Road races (on a ring of 400 meters) are the same (except for the lawsuit) with more marathon run on the last day.

 

The InLine

The inline (a plate with four wheels aligned) were invented in 1980 by the hockey player Scott Olsson and then marketed by the major sports brands. Thanks to them, skating roller-blading has become a social phenomenon.

Among the various disciplines:

- The fitness or how to get around town on skates.

- The street is the most technical discipline with his acrobatics and jumps. The street is practiced in the skate parks equipped with ramps (halfpipe) and above all in the street, an ideal place for "street" with sidewalks, its barriers, its marches, its benches. During a street competition, the "street" makes figures for two periods of 60 or 90 seconds, each on different obstacles.

The Rollerski or Roller skiing
